Somalytics, a University of Washington spinout developing tech to sense human gestures, body functions and eye movement, raised $1.9 million. The seed round was led by IP Group, with participation from Washington Research Foundation. UW associate professor of mechanical engineering Jae-Hyun Chung developed the technology, and he co-founded the company with two graduate students in his lab, Zhongie Qian, and Viggy Sak. The startup is led by CEO Barbara Barclay, who previously worked as president of eye-tracking healthcare company RightEye. The funding will go towards manufacturing, research and development, and team growth.
